Malian Citizenship

Citizenship by Marriage 

Documents to be provided: 

  • A written application bearing a $10 fiscal stamp, addressed to the Director General of Judicial Affairs and the Seal, with the subject: “Request for information regarding the status of my Malian nationality.”  
  • The original Certificate of Malian Nationality of the Malian husband or wife. ($20)  
  • For a Malian wife, her husband’s name must appear on the Certificate of Nationality.  
  • A certified copy of the marriage certificate, authenticated by the Embassy. ($10)  
  • The original birth certificate (extract) of the Malian husband or wife. ($20)  
  • A certified copy of the Malian spouse’s NINA card or consular card. ($10)  
  • The original birth certificate (extract) of the foreign spouse.  
  • A certified copy of the foreign spouse’s passport. ($10)  
  • The original birth certificate (extract) of any children born from the marriage, if applicable. ($20) 

Citizenship by Parents 

Step 1 – Transcription of the American Birth Certificate 

Required documents: 

  • Copy of the American birth certificate. 
  • Copy of the Malian parent’s identification (Birth Certificate, NINA Card, or “Fiche Individuelle”. 
  • Money order or cash payment of $5. 
  • Prepaid return envelope if the documents need to be mailed back. 

Step 2 – NINA Enrollment 

Once the birth certificate transcription has been completed, the applicant must be enrolled in the NINA system. 

Applicants 14 years of age and older must appear in person for fingerprinting and photograph capture with the birth certificate.
